We're going to be sending regular updates sharing what we've built, what we're learning, and what's coming next as we work toward launching Remeni. Think of it as a running journal of building a company; the wins, the pivots, and everything in between!
Since this is our first issue, we wanted to start by catching you up on how we got here!
The idea for Remeni came together in the spring of 2025. Erika had been on a dedicated fitness journey for almost two years at that time and was laser-focused on losing weight. She was eating healthy, logging her meals and calorie intake into ChatGPT, and consistent with her physical activity. However, she came to a point where she felt like she was plateauing with her progress. Additionally, it was becoming labor-intensive to get ChatGPT to keep up with her meal logging due to the memory limits of the technology. She lamented to Christel about this issue for weeks and they intermittently discussed various ways that AI could be leveraged to improve the experience of meal logging. After coming across a story about a teenager developing a successful app using AI, they asked themselves if kids can create apps to solve the issues plaguing them, why couldn’t they?
That spark of inspiration was all they needed to get going. With an invigorating sense of purpose, they began brainstorming an app that would accurately track calories while seamlessly logging meals and workouts. They also wanted to leverage AI to build personalized meal plans and workout routines for users based on the information given to them by the user. By that May, they had registered the domain name of their website and staked out their social media accounts. That summer, before they had a developer on their team, a structured business plan, or any real idea of what they were doing, Christel tried to build the app from scratch by teaching himself how to use coding tools such as Expo Go, Cursor, and GitHub in order to "vibe code" the very first version of Remeni. At the same time, Erika started sketching out content ideas for how they would eventually tell this story publicly, long before there was anything to show.
By August, Remeni was officially an LLC registered with the secretary of state. That fall, they were connected with the developer and business advisor who've been building this alongside them ever since. Soon after connecting with them, the decision was made to rebuild the app using the framework designed and coded by the founders as a template. That scrappy first version was a valiant effort from someone with virtually no coding experience outside of very basic HTML, but it was significantly lacking the capacity to execute the vision of Remeni. With a dedicated development team finally in place, the focus shifted from proving the idea could exist to tenaciously building the app they always envisioned!
Here's what we've been focused on most recently:
As for milestones: our website is live at remeniapp.com, we’ve been locking in our brand across our social media pages, and we have a growing list of people outside our own team testing Remeni!
Over the next several weeks, we're focused on:
In future issues, we’ll start pulling back the curtain on how Remeni is actually being built by sharing with you the decisions, experiments, pivots, and lessons behind the product you see today. We’ll share stories like why we transformed a generic “Wellness Score” into the Remi Score, how a deep dive into our competitors changed what we chose to prioritize, and what happens when real user behavior shows us that an idea that made sense on paper needs to be rethought.
We’ll also take you inside our beta-testing process: what we’re learning from early users, how analytics help us spot friction that feedback surveys can miss, and how those insights ultimately become changes to the app.
Our beta is officially underway, and we're now looking to bring more people into the Remeni community. If you'd like to be one of the first to try Remeni on iOS, share your feedback, and help shape the app as we continue building, we'd love to have you!
Thanks for being here this early and believing in what we're building. We appreciate you more than you know!
